Aram Tufan, winner of the Accelerator category of the Big Idea Competition in 2022, launched his company Happy Student at a University of Westminster Welcome Event last week.
The Westminster Big Idea Competition is the University’s annual University-wide student and graduate business idea and innovation competition, run in partnership with Santander Universities UK.
The competition encourages and supports students to develop their entrepreneurial skills and to build and grow their businesses. Students benefit from specialist business workshops and mentoring to support their growth. Over £40,000 in funding is available to finalists to help their business grow and flourish.
The app Happy Student is available now and free to all students. It provides information on everything required for an international student arriving in the UK for the first time, including advice on banking, health care, housing and more.
Aram has used his prize fund to produce a custom version of the app exclusively for University of Westminster students. His app has been accepted into the Microsoft for Startups program and partnered with Microsoft Education. These programs and partnerships bring a wealth of opportunities for Happy Student to bring its innovative solutions to students and educators on a global scale.
Aram who also won the Big Idea Competition’s Viral Idea award in 2022, said: “I am overjoyed to be able to share the soft launch of Happy Student at the University of Westminster Welcome Event. Winning The Big Idea Competition was a dream come true, and I am grateful for the opportunity to bring the Happy Student app to life.
“The app is designed to help students navigate the challenges of settling in a new city. I am thrilled to be a part of the University's entrepreneurial community and to be able to support and connect with students in this way.”
Applications are also open for The Big Idea Competition 2023.
