The annual University of Westminster Degree Shows highlight a range of projects, reflecting the varied talent across the Westminster School of Arts and the School of Media and Communication. In an interview, Ella Broom and Amber Bright, two Contemporary Media Practice BA Honours alumni, spoke about the inspiration for their final project, what the degree show meant to them, and their careers since graduating.

Can you tell us more about yourself?

Ella is originally from Germany, but she moved to the UK to undertake a more creative education. She has a background in film and photography and has always been passionate about creating art. Amber is from Nottingham and has a background in film.

What inspired you to create your final work?

We wanted to create an art piece to raise awareness of coastal erosion and its effects on a community. We based our project Erosion on the community of Hemsby and with their active involvement we built a sand sculpture on the beach that replicated the dunes in the background.

What were you most excited about for the degree show?

Showcasing our final year project meant a lot to us, as mentioned, we want to raise awareness and the best way for us to do that was by letting people see our work and have an active conversation with them.

What have you been up to since graduation?

We both started full-time jobs in June - Amber is working in events and marketing and Ella in content creation and event management. Studying was a lot of fun but we’re also really looking forward to working in the industry.

What are your long-term career aspirations?

We want to stay within the industry we’re working in - marketing, content creation and event management - but hope that we will be able to continue making art together on the side.
