Regent Street Cinema is returning to hosting weekly Monday Matinee screenings for over 55s at just £4 a ticket with a mission to help combat social isolation and improve the quality of life of its attendees. The film line up consists of both classic films and new releases for guests to enjoy.
Continuing from its successful Christmas event in 2019, Regent Street Cinema, located next to the University’s Regent Street Campus, will welcome back its weekly Monday Matinees programme from Monday 23 August, with an extensive line-up of classics having already been revealed.
From the 1946 favourite ‘Notorious’ which casts Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman in one of Hitchcock’s greatest and darkest love stories, to the iconic 2016 ‘La La Land’ portraying Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone amongst a golden era Hollywood in present-day LA, Monday Matinees are enjoyed by many at Regent Street Cinema.
Its last event before the COVID-19 pandemic was held at Christmas in 2019 to celebrate the attendees’ involvement in the programme. The event consisted of a show of classical music from the cinema’s organ, a screening of the 1954 film White Christmas, and closed with a buffet.
Speaking to BBC Radio London as part of the Christmas Matinee Classics in 2019, attendee John, who travels from Bromley just to go to the event, said: “I’ve been retired for eight to nine years and it gets you out, you meet people and enjoy your day and it’s very sociable as such. Particularly in winter when it’s cold, dark and miserable, it lifts you and gets you out.”
Talking about the event and the reasons behind the screenings, Sarah Virani, Partnerships and Marketing Manager for Regent Street Cinema, said: “Our aim is to provide a place where you can enjoy watching fantastic films and where our guests can build friendships as well as promote physical and mental well-being. When you come to our cinema, we want to be able to offer you a wide selection of films that will inspire, bring joy, evoke emotion and leave you wanting more.”
