Tautvydas (Sam) Marcinkevicius, a recent graduate from the Computer Games Development BSc Honours course, has won the IntoGames50 2023 Award for Game Engine/Tools Programming or Game Development.
This award is presented by games recruitment agency One Player Mission and non-profit careers and skills organisation Into Games. The IntoGames50 Award gives game developers without previous work experience in the industry the opportunity to pitch their work to some of the sectors biggest companies. It also provides employability support and press attention. A panel of industry judges selected 50 winners from almost 300 submissions. Sam won in the Programming and Tech category.
Sam Marcinkevicius said: "Due to some special circumstances in my education when I was applying for colleges, I thought my opportunity to become a software developer, and in particular, a games developer was over. I am beyond overjoyed to have had the opportunity from the University of Westminster, to change that fact, and I am proud of the journey I have gone through, to finally be where I had once dreamt to be when I was just 13 years old. I have learned so much, and while the journey was tough, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat, and I hope to continue my passion, with the love of learning that the university has given me, for decades to come."
CEO of Into Games Declan Cassidy said: “It’s so important to highlight the abundant talent we have in the UK and the IG50 is a way of helping the very nearest to work get that extra push they need into their dream career. Over 80% of last year’s winners are now working in their first games role – these people really are the future of the sector.”
