Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, was interviewed for AL24 News’ 2022 year in review about the world refugee crisis and the future of the UK economy in 2023.
The programme highlighted the high number of refugees who fled their homes in 2022 and Professor Catterall discussed what effects such high levels of migration might have on the host countries, including the fact that countries who bear the burden of hosting refugees are also primarily the poorest.
Professor Catterall also discussed the future of the UK government and economy in 2023. She points to Brexit as being responsible for much of the instability, stating that the government is rushing to finish Brexit which is turn causing legal uncertainty, red tape, lower food standards, changes to environmental rights, and a worse recession.
“We have a government which is not only in a hole but determined to keep digging,” said Professor Catterall.
