Lewis Dartnell, Professor of Science Communication, was invited to speak about the hunt for alien life at the UK in Space Festival at the National Space Centre in Leicester on 2 July 2023.

Lewis Dartnell

The UK in Space Festival is a chance for space enthusiasts of all ages to get hands-on experience with real science, discover new missions heading to space, learn about the vibrant UK space industry and the career opportunities within it, hear inspiring speakers and meet a team of Space Communicators and special guests.

Professor Dartnell gave a talk on Astrobiology, a brand-new field of science which looks for life on other planets. He took the audience on a tour of the other planets and moons in the solar system which may harbour life, and even further afield to potential alien worlds orbiting distant stars.

Speaking about his talk at the festival, Professor Dartnell said: “The National Space Centre is an incredible place to explore and has a special place in my nerdy heart! The UK in Space Festival there this week was a wonderful experience, and it was such a thrill to be able to talk to so many people of all ages about where we’re heading to next on our explorations of the final frontier.”
