Music Teacher Magazine, which is seen to be the most respected publication about Music education and teachers, has written a profile on the University of Westminster’s Head of Music Research Professor Dr Shirley J. Thompson OBE, exploring her views on composing, her musical journey and the aspects of her life that have made her who she is today.
The article explores Professor Dr Thompson’s vast variety of skills, highlighting that not only is she a well renowned composer who was chosen to compose the music for King Charles’ Coronation, she is also an expert of contemporary dance, a film maker, a historian and a cultural activist.
Commenting on her vast interests and skills, she said: “I was always curious about things, about everything, including science, history, philosophy. From school, I remember my teacher saying, out of the blue, ‘you've got a thirst for learning’, and I think this helped.”
