Law alumnus listed in top 50 influential Muslims in UK and Europe 2023

Law LLB Honours alumnus Shaheen Mamun has been listed by EqualityX as one of the 50 most influential Muslims in the UK and Europe 2023. 

The EqualityX list recognises and celebrates achievements of 50 Muslim professionals whose work highlights and uplifts Muslim communities across a variety of sectors. The list recognises Shaheen for making a profound positive difference to the representation of Muslims in the legal sector, and working to improve workplace culture. 

Shaheen has worked tirelessly throughout his career to champion and celebrate diversity in the legal sector. Shaheen is an Equality Diversity and Inclusion committee member for the Law Society of England and Wales and works as one of their Social Mobility Ambassadors. Shaheen is also the Strategic Partnership lead at the Muslim Employment Charter which aims to help employers better accommodate the needs of Muslim professionals in the workplace.   

Since graduating from Westminster in 2014, Shaheen has worked in many capacities across the legal field. He now manages his own law firm, Black Antelope Law, which has been recognised for its outstanding performance in immigration. He has recently joined Diversify, a recruitment agency that specialises in connecting employers with underrepresented communities, as their Diversity, Equality and Inclusion lead and was appointed as a Non-Executive Director for the Coram’s Fields Trust Shaheen was also a finalist in the Outstanding Achievement category of this year’s Westminster Alumni Awards, recognising his exceptional contribution to the legal industry.  

Speaking about this award, Shaheen said: “Being recognized among the 50 most influential Muslims in the UK and Europe is an incredible honour. It's a testament to the collective efforts made in championing diversity within the legal sphere. I'm immensely grateful to the University of Westminster for laying the groundwork for my journey and fostering an environment that encourages commitment to inclusivity and positive change.”
