University of Westminster alumna Dr Orna Rosenfeld has been awarded the global Social Impact Award for her work on housing development across the world.
Dr Orna Rosenfeld, who completed a PhD in Urban Regeneration and Development at the University of Westminster, has been named the global winner of the Social Impact Award, having previously been named the European winner earlier this year.
The award recognised Dr Rosenfeld’s work for advising organisations including UNECE and the World Bank on housing policies and investment. Her work has also helped to increase the provision of social and affordable housing in 56 countries, alongside helping to implement the EU Urban Agenda Housing Partnership and designing an action plan to improve housing knowledge, regulation and investment.
In 2014, Dr Rosenfeld was recognised as a World Cities Summit Young Leader for her contribution to improving urban livability and sustainability. She is currently supporting leaders of global organisations to undertake agenda-setting research, advance housing policy and investment in pursuit of inclusive recovery post-COVID-19.
The Study UK Alumni Awards were developed by the British Council and UK universities to celebrate UK higher education and their alumni all over the world.
Other Westminster alumni have also been recognised as part of the Study UK Alumni Awards this year. Anil Singh Rana, who studied on the Construction Project Management MSc course and was selected for the Entrepreneurial Award in Mauritius, and Askar Bilisbekov, who completed the International Business and Management MSc course at Westminster and was nominated for the Professional Achievement Award in Kazakhstan, were both finalists.
Talking about receiving the Social Impact Award, Dr Orna Rosenfeld said: “I am absolutely delighted and deeply honoured to have been selected winner of the Study UK Alumni Award Winner 2020-21 under the Social Impact category. This award is a testimony to the magnitude of the social impact housing has on our lives and our societies, as well as the importance of education to advance it.”
