Advance HE has announced the winners of the 2022 National Teaching Fellowship Scheme, recognising the Westminster academic as one of 54 individuals to become new National Teaching Fellows.

Dr Morady is the Principal Lecturer in International Relations and Development and Academic Director of the Democratic Education Network (DEN) in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Westminster.

In 2016, Dr Morady pioneered the Democratic Education Network, a student/staff-focused initiative based in the University of Westminster, engaging students worldwide. This project has built links with several ethnic communities in London and strategic partners at a national and international level such as in Turkey, Vietnam, Thailand and Peru. It works closely on issues such as education, diversity, inclusion, justice, power, democracy, gender and remittance.

The impact of DEN on colleagues, students, and the University of Westminster was acknowledged nationally in 2019, when DEN was a runner-up for the Students’ Experience Award at the prestigious Guardian University Awards. DEN was recognised for positively impacting the personal experiences of students.

In 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2019, Dr Morady was awarded Outstanding Teacher at the Staff Appreciation Awards managed by the University of Westminster Students’ Union (UWSU), which recognised his outstanding commitment and contribution to engage and support students.

Alison Johns, Chief Executive at Advance HE, said: “Congratulations to each and every new National Teaching Fellow and CATE team on this fantastic achievement.

“At Advance HE, we run the prestigious NTF and CATE awards for the UK Higher Education sector with enormous pride. The challenges of offering an outstanding teaching experience in recent years have been very demanding, but the sector has risen to the challenge.”

Dr Farhang Morady, newly awarded 2022 National Teaching Fellow, said: "I am humbled to receive the prestigious National Teaching Fellowship for 2022. This would have been impossible without the support of our students, colleagues and the University.

“I am especially proud to work with students from diverse backgrounds who have used their creativity, passion, imagination and organic leadership to make the Democratic Education Network central to teaching, learning and overall university experience for our Westminster community."

The 2022 awards ceremony will take place on 29 September in Liverpool.
