Dr Aidan Hehir, Reader on the International Relations BA Honours course, was featured in an article published by Al Jazeera about a left wing victory for Kosovo.
The left-wing party Vetevendosje, or the Self Determination Movement party, recently won a snap election held in Kosovo, with 25 per cent of the vote. The win is a significant development due to the country being governed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) since 2007.
Dr Hehir considers this victory a dramatic and welcome change. He said: “The electorate have shown they are hungry for a new direction and given how Kosovo has been mismanaged by successive governments, this is understandable.
“Kosovo has stagnated politically and economically in recent years, and its international status has become increasingly tenuous.”
