Construction of new sports hall underway at Harrow Campus

The new Harrow sports hall is designed to help meet increasing student and colleague demand for sports and recreation facilities. The new space will include a new gym, facilities for court sports including volleyball, basketball, netball and badminton, and a spectator area for up to 180 people.

Student engagement in Westminster sports clubs and societies has grown dramatically, particularly over the last year, with more than 10,000 members now active. The Harrow sports hall will help to meet this increasing demand and is expected to be completed early next year.  As part of the work taking place, new landscaping and planting will be introduced around the sports hall. The sports hall will be available to all students and colleagues to use and will provide space for University of Westminster sports teams to further grow and flourish.

Student Opportunities Manager Chris Rolfe said: “The introduction of a new sports hall and gym at the University of Westminster will have a profound impact on students' physical and mental well-being, social engagement, and overall university experience. It will promote a healthy lifestyle, encourage participation in different sports, and create opportunities for meaningful connections among students. Alongside this it will allow our students to pursue higher sporting ambitions, allowing elite level sport to occur more regularly on our campus.”

The construction of the new sports hall begins after the University has granted students and colleagues access to free membership at both the Harrow Campus and Regent Campus gyms, as part of its commitment to community wellbeing. The Regent Campus gym has a full diverse range of equipment from cardio, free weights, lifting platforms, resistance kit, functional equipment to a boxing bag room, and the option of studio classes, which are all accessible free of charge for the Westminster community.
