A panel of recent graduates from School of Computer Science and Engineering courses shared their insights into how they have utilised their degree after graduation, as part of the What Comes Next? Alumni series on 2 November. The event was aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students in the School of Computer Science and Engineering.
Computing - What Comes Next? was co-organised by Westminster's Alumni Relations team and the School of Computer Science and Engineering, and covered a range of questions, a Q&A session, with refreshments and light snacks served at the end.
The guest speakers were mainly alumni from the Computer Science BSc course, including Trung Johnny Le, Junior Software Engineer at Eventsforce; Yousra Kassaoui, Solutions Engineer at NetApp; Evisa Terziu, Frontend Engineer at Masabi; James Thomas-Purcell, Developer at IBM; as well as Matthew Hollick, System Integration Engineer at Disguise, who graduated from the Digital Media Development BSc course.
The alumni touched upon worries, regrets and joys of their time at Westminster. They discussed how exploring their interests at the University supported them in finding their career path post-graduation. The speakers who have done a placement year also explained how they made use of this experience to become highly skilled professionals.
Talking about the event, Panel chair Dr Anastasia Angelopoulou, Senior Lecturer from Computer Science and Engineering, said: “The quality, relevance and impact of the panellists’ roles and responsibilities were tremendously inspirational and covered a wide range of demographic background. Such highly skilful panel members with amazing chemistry and heated debate to my questions on What comes Next? after graduation! It was a joyful experience to chair this session and was very inspiring to learn about their, sometimes rocky, path to success. Student engagement from the audience was driven by relevance, aspiration and willingness to be involved at all stages.”
What Comes Next? is a course-aligned event series to share the knowledge and experience of recent graduates. It aims to help undergraduate students to better understand the variety of opportunities and career fields open to them after university.
