Clearing gives Architecture student chance to study in heart of London

Architecture student Fatemeh Ghalichehbaf Vosoughi found her way to the University of Westminster through Clearing and has not looked back.

Fatemeh Ghalichehbaf Vosoughi studied Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Persian for her A-levels at Ashbourne College in London. She was excited to start a new chapter at university, but when Results Day came around, she had the feeling felt by so many – the unknown of the next step. She took to the internet to research a variety of different universities and courses and was drawn to Westminster as it offered the most suitable Clearing courses for her.

While she always knew she wanted to go to university she had not planned for the Clearing process. Speaking to University staff working on the Clearing phone lines she was guided through the process and found a spot on the University’s Architecture with Foundation BA Honours course. The hotline offers a calm and supportive space to seek guidance and key information on securing a university place.

Now approaching her third year at Westminster, she has thrown herself into university life, making the most of the campus and her tutors. So far, her favourite moments have been times spent working on group projects in the Fabrication Lab on Westminster’s Marylebone Campus. Her favourite project has been her foundation year crane project where she made a 2.5-metre-high real-life crane, inspired by the ones used when building ancient Rome.

Her long-term plan has always been to construct buildings and to see them across the globe. She loves Brutalism architecture and is inspired by industrial buildings and Mimar Sinan, the creator of the Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque in Istanbul. She hopes to continue to grow throughout her career and run her own company and work in city planning.

Fatemeh said: “Studying on the course that I admire was one of my huge goals which the University of Westminster made happen. I always wanted to study at university and luckily I made it through Clearing to the University of Westminster, and I’m currently in a course full of interesting options and routes. I would advise new students going through Clearing to be patient and do lots of research as they have to decide for a lifelong decision.”

Architectural Technology BSc Honours, Architecture and Environmental Design BSc Honours, Interior Architecture BA Honours and Urban Planning and Design BA Honours courses may still have places through Clearing.
