Chantal Gautier, Senior Lecturer and Sexologist at the University of Westminster, has been nominated for The Conversation’s Sir Paul Curran Award for her dedication, excellent writing and expertise she has demonstrated in the numerous articles she has written for the publication.
The Conversation is an online publication that brings academics and journalists together, creating informed and research-based articles on the latest in current affairs. They use expert insight to give the public a greater understanding of today’s issues, working together to create insightful and clear articles.
The Sir Paul Curran Award is awarded to an academic who has made an outstanding contribution to public communication through their work with The Conversation throughout the year.
Gautier wrote five articles in 2023, exploring long-distance relationships, friends with benefits, AI and pornography, ethical non-monogamous relationships and sex. Throughout the year she tallied up just under 400,000 reads and saw her articles republished 28 times by a variety of different publications from across the globe.
Her articles directly contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Wellbeing, as they provide help, support and guidance to those who may find themselves in situations that they do not understand and shine light on important topics around relationships.
Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
The winner will be announced on 9 May.
