The Centre for Law, Society and Popular Culture is pleased to share its November news.
We welcomed a number of fantastic external speakers on both the LLM and LLB during November including Philip Kolvin QC, Joe Canon, Ed Weidman, Eamonn Forde and Tiny Woods, the lead singer of the band Ultrasound. See photo of Tiny above and see his band playing Glastonbury on YouTube.
Professor Guy Osborn was invited to give a paper at the Swedish Network for European Studies conference The Europeanization of the lex sportiva: how European Law shapes the governance of global sports in Umea, Sweden. His paper was entitled ‘The influence of European legal culture on the evolution of Lex Olympica and Olympic Law’ and was co-presented with Centre Associate Fellow Mark James (MMU).
Dr Matthew Morrison and Professor Guy Osborn also ran a series of successful events under the auspices of the 2021 Being Human Festival. Their event Soho after Covid was organised in conjunction with Helen Eastman and Live Canon, and drew on their ACC funded project ‘Re-imagining the Virtual Space: The Soho Poly and Everyday Culture after Covid’.
Our friends at Sheridans alerted us to an opportunity for students to attend the Football Agent & Business Summit and we were delighted that Westminster Law School agreed to sponsor a number of our LLB and LLM students to attend this. Kristina Hristova, a student on the Entertainment Law LLM course, was one of the attendees and said:
“It was fascinating to attend The Football Agent & Business Summit (FABS) 2021. The event gave me a greater understanding of the main issues in football agency and provided me with excellent networking opportunities. Presenters introduced us to real-life issues that had happened to them. The atmosphere of the FABS 2021 was warm and friendly, yet highly educational…FABS 2021 was an extremely productive event.”
