The Centre for Law, Society and Popular Culture is pleased to share its May and June news.
We are delighted to announce that Centre Member Dr Andrew Smith was awarded the title of Professor, effective 1 August 2021.
Dr Holly Hancock also had ‘The impact of the image on personal life: is current law out of focus?’ published in the Journal of Media Law.
Dr Anna Chronopoulou presented her paper entitled: ‘Changing on-screen representations of women lawyers on both sides of the Atlantic’ at the Popular Culture Association conference, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA from 2-5 of June 2021. Anna also organised a roundtable discussion on International Legal Order and the Middle East: The Pandemic beyond regional engagements, at the BISA conference: Forget International Studies?
Professor Pippa Catterall produced a report and film on Queering Public Space, sponsored by Arup. She subsequently presented on this to the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (West Midlands) branch, Arup Europe, Land Labs, Academy of Urbanism and Commonplace as well as recording a podcast about the report with The Developer. She also spoke on ‘Women’s Safety in Public Space’ for New London Architecture. In addition, she presented a paper on ‘The Embodied Constitution: key workers, bodies, rights, and COVID’ at the annual Franco-British Lawyers’ Society conference on 27 May.
We are pleased to announce a successful bid for National Lottery Heritage Fund to support our Soho Poly work. Advance notice too that Dr Matthew Morrison’s play Dance is appearing at the King’s Head Theatre in Islington.
