The Centre for Law, Society and Popular Culture is pleased to share its February news.
Centre Fellow and Visiting Professor Sir Richard Arnold delivered his sixth annual lecture on Tuesday 15 February, with this year’s event focusing on ‘Musicians’ Contracts and the Streaming Economy’.
Professor Pippa Catterall spoke on the ‘Museum of Soho Radio Hour’ (Soho Radio) on 13 February about the project she chairs to develop an AIDS memorial in London. Her other activities for LGBTQ+ History Month included giving a lecture at University College London on ‘Locating Transness in History’ on 23 February, and chairing a discussion on ‘How to be a Good LGBTQ+ Ally’ at the University of Westminster on 24 February.
In addition, in relation to her Queering Public Space project, Professor Catterall gave a presentation about ‘Inclusivity in Public Space in India’ for a cross-India faculty induction programme held at the University of Kashmir on 11 February and recorded a podcast for HETA on safety in public space on 24 February. She also published an article titled ‘Despite Boris Johnson’s politics of personal insults and falsehoods, rumours of his impending demise appear premature’ on the LSE Politics and Policy blog.
Soho Poly activities have continued apace this month. Dr Matthew Morrison and Professor Guy Osborn appeared on Soho Radio talking about the project, this is an hour’s special with the Soho Society and includes songs chosen by them, University history and more. Along with the rest of the Soho Poly Project team, we also hosted a successful Residents meeting.
