Event

Over the past three decades there has been a widespread diffusion of communication technologies. This has changed the landscape for individuals who are affected by illness and there are now multiple opportunities to interact with similar others online and share personal experience of illness. This seminar will discuss the role of online peer support communities and through examples from his programme of research spanning 20 years, Professor Coulson will critically discuss a range of issues including: reasons for engagement; benefits as well as risks; the psychosocial impact of participation; how support is enacted online as well as longevity of online peer support communities.
