About this event
The Westminster Business School Debates concept seeks to bring together an interdisciplinary panel of speakers who bring a variety of perspectives to make for a stimulating and insightful debate around the topic under discussion. All events are free and open to the public.
For our next debate we will focus on leadership and management, where these themes are interwoven into many of our Postgraduate degree courses.
Our expert panel will explore how leaders can empower, motivate and inspire their team. Of course, leaders often face great challenges. For example, leaders have the responsibility to tackle dysfunctional organisations and cultures. We will discuss signs of dysfunction such as lack of communication, resources and shared mission. What are the characteristics of toxic leaders? Why does toxic leadership happen and in what environments does it thrive? How does this contrast with ethical leadership? When faced with these issues, we may even ask ourselves whether we really need leaders at all. The panel will consider whether leaderless organisations are the future. Is self-management instinctive? Is it easier for the workforce to organise themselves in the post-covid digital world?
Our panel line-up:
- Dr Katalin Illes
- Dr Randhir Auluck
- Dr Epaminondas (Nodas) Koronis
- Dr Karen Jackson – Moderator
The format will see each speaker give a brief presentation after which the moderator will open the floor to questions from the live audience.
