You are warmly invited to join us in the historic Regent Street Cinema for the launch of the Westminster Centre for Psychological Sciences.
About the event
Join us for drinks and nibbles and hear how our research is transforming health and wellbeing, promoting a more compassionate society, shaping education, reforming policing practices, as well as creating better understanding of how humans make decisions and form memories.
Real-world research that contributes to a more equitable and healthier society is central to our mission at the University of Westminster, and we are deeply committed to working closely with our community, as well as influencing policy and supporting businesses. This event will give you an opportunity to not only learn about the impact we are having, but to find out how you can contribute to - and benefit from – ideas and future projects.
The evening will feature the following talks from 6–7.30pm:
- Professor Dibyesh Anand, Head of School of Social Sciences, will present the opening for the event
- Dr Tina Cartwright and Professor Catherine Loveday will provide an introduction and whistle-stop tour of Westminster Centre for Psychological Sciences
- Dr Sian Williams will share her journey from BBC journalist to practicing counselling psychologist, via a Masters degree at the University of Westminster
- Five of our leading researchers – Dr Alison Eardley, Professor Damien Ridge, Professor Coral Dando, Professor Tom Buchanan and Dr Tom Nadarzynski – will explore how both human and digital interfaces can promote inclusion, build empathy and improve rapport. What are the benefits of using chatbots to collect eye-witness testimony or provide health information and support? How do human biases shape both healthcare and the sharing of misinformation?
- Health leader Dr Michael Dixon OBE will join us to talk about how his work with the University of Westminster led to social prescribing being taken up in the NHS
- There will be an opportunity for discussion and questions with speakers, with final words from the Vice Chancellor, Professor Peter Bonfield
The event will be followed by a drinks reception from 7.30–8.15pm where you can network with nibbles with interactive exhibitions
