Professor Christos Kalantaridis, Dean of Westminster Business School, will present his paper co-authored with Merle Kuttin, Multi-dimensional Time and Innovation Ecosystems: A Critical Realist View of the Accumulated Literature to launch the new Entrepreneurship Research Group.
This event will take place in the Marylebone building in C280.
Time constitutes a relatively overlooked dimension of innovation ecosystems, despite the considerable growth of scholarly attention that they received during the past twenty years or so. This is despite the fact that the eco prefix, that differentiates this body of research from earlier systemic (regional, national and sectoral) approaches, highlights the interdependency among actors and the co-evolution that binds them together over time. In response, our paper sets out to develop a coherent framework for the conduct of temporal analysis of innovation ecosystems. This draws on critical realism and is used to decipher existing research and shape the research and policy and practice agenda. Our critical realist framework offers observers of innovation ecosystems the intellectual tools needed in order to decipher actors and actions, and shapes an emergent agenda for future temporal studies. We create a designed intellectual construct that is, however, mostly bare of contents. This impacts adversely our ability to draw implication for policy and practice.
