We are pleased to announce that we will resume our in-person GEPG meetings. Our next workshop will take place in Berlin on June 27–28 at the FernUniversität in Hagen – Campus Berlin.
The workshop will cover the themes of macroeconomic policies, integration and trade. We are looking forward to welcoming the following keynote speakers:
Professor Plutarchos Sakellaris
Athens University of Economics and Business
Professor Sakellaris has published his research in top economics journals such as American Economic Review, Journal of Monetary Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, International Economic Review, among others. He has also served as Staff Economist at the Federal Reserve Board and as Visiting Expert at the European Central Bank. From 2008 to 2012 he was Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), where he was in charge of Risk Management, the Economics Department and the Bank's activities on energy. His responsibilities also included supervising financing operations in Denmark, Ireland, Greece, Cyprus, Romania, sub-Saharan African, the Caribbean and the Pacific countries. Prior to joining the EIB, Professor Sakellaris held the position of Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers at the Hellenic Ministry of Economy and Finance. He was a member of the European Union's Economic and Financial Committee and of the Euro Working Group. He served as Deputy to the Finance Minister at the Eurogroup and ECOFIN Councils of the EU and as Alternate Governor for Greece at the World Bank.
Dr Christoph Görtz
University of Birmingham
Dr Görtz is an Associate Professor in Macroeconomics and co-lead of the Macroeconomics and Finance Research Group at the University of Birmingham. His research interests are in the area of macroeconomics with particular focus on business cycles; news, expectations and uncertainty; DSGE modelling and macroeconometrics; and inventory and investment dynamics. He has published his research in top economics journals such as Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, Journal of Monetary Economics, American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics, Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Review of Economics and Statistics among others. He also recently provided written evidence to the House of Commons that contributed to the Committee of Public Accounts' report "Initial lessons from the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic" (Thirteenth Report of Session 2021-22).
