AVID's AGM & Removed (animation) Screening: Reclaiming the Narrative on Immigration Detention Together

Date 7 March 2025
Time 5:30 - 8:30pm
Location 309 Regent Street

Join us for this two-part event in which we will explore how we can reclaim the narrative on immigration detention and ensure that humanity and the people who are directly impacted by this system are front and centre of the conversation.

The Premiere of Removed

Hope's story begins with a knock on the door in the dead of night. It ends with a question: What kind of society do we want to be? This is your chance to see, hear, and reclaim the narrative.
Be among the first to watch Removed, a groundbreaking animation that tells the stories of many through the voice of one woman—Hope. Taken from her home in the middle of the night without warning or trial, Hope’s journey exposes the violent intersection of immigration policies and systemic inequalities. This poignant animation challenges us to step into the shoes of those living this reality.

Following the animation screening, we will host a "long table" discussion to inspire one another and cultivate new strategies to reclaim the narrative on immigration detention. In this open and participatory format, everyone has a voice, and your unique insights and experiences will shape the conversation.

AVID’s Annual General Meeting (AGM)

This event will take place alongside AVID's Annual General Meeting (AGM) which will be held prior to the screening. Attend AVID’s AGM to hear about our collective impact and future plans to challenge immigration detention. AVID members will have an opportunity to vote on trustees, and attendees will receive our annual report.

Refreshments will be provided.

This event is supported by the University of Westminster Diversity and Inclusion research community and co-organised by AVID, Border Criminologies, and HOMELandS Centre at the University of Westminster.
