Welcome to your course
Thank you for accepting our offer of a place on the Air Transport Planning and Management MSc. This page is to welcome you to the programme and provide some important information on the course structure and key dates. The first module block 7TRAN001W in January will be delivered on campus.
Please note that although the University term starts on Monday 13 January, there are no events scheduled for this course before Tuesday 21 January which is the first day that you need to participate. Please enrol on Wednesday 15 January to gain access to the University facilities and online services.
It is not necessary to do any introductory reading but if you wish to obtain a book in advance, we would recommend R. Doganis, Flying Off Course: Airline Economics and Marketing (5th edition, 2019), Routledge. Chapters 1—5 and 11 are the most relevant for the first module.
Welcome to the School of Architecture + Cities
During your time in the School the focus is on your work and creative outputs – and we are committed helping you achieve your potential. As well as the full-time teaching staff, leading practitioners teach on our courses, and employers mentor students. The School brings together a variety of disciplines to address future environmental and social challenges – urban and environmental design to architecture, architectural technology, interior architecture, planning, and tourism and events. Our Marylebone campus is perfectly placed for exploring London, and houses some of the most advanced teaching and fabrication spaces in the city.
During your induction week, there will be a programme of activities arranged for you, so please attend all the events on your individual timetable – as well as the formality of enrolment, you will get to work with your course tutors and fellow students.
Best wishes
Kate Cheyne

Blackboard
Blackboard is our online learning platform, which you'll be able to log in to after you've set up your University email address and password.
Teaching timetables
Teaching starts in the week commencing Monday 20 January and you can check your teaching timetable to see when and where your classes are being held.
Course handbook
Full details on the course structure, modules and course team are included in the course handbook, which can be found on Blackboard.
Reading list
Your reading list can be found in the course handbook on Blackboard.
Equipment and materials
Digital technology
While you can borrow laptops through the University for 24 hours, it's better to have your own. If you're not sure what to buy, our technical support team can advise you once you've enrolled.
You'll be eligible for a student discount on computer purchases.
A smart phone with a good camera function is very useful for recording your work and for online communication.
It would be helpful if you can obtain a pocket calculator for use in the workshop exercises. Calculators, which must be electronic, silent, cordless and non-programmable, may also be used in assessed tasks and we would strongly advise you to obtain a basic model if you do not already possess one (NB mobile phones are not allowed in in-class tests!).
Lectures and workshops timetable
Lectures and workshops will take place on campus for this first week and in subsequent module blocks. The intermediate weeks' programme between the taught modules will be mostly on campus also.
Part-time students take 7TRAN001W Air Transport Economics and usually three other modules in their first year.
The course outline will be provided to each student on the induction day, while full course details are provided in the course handbook which will be available on the internal website through Blackboard, the University's virtual learning environment.
