The Mitigating Circumstances process has changed and now includes the option for students to self-certify. From November 2020, you can self-certify (SC) for absence up to two times in one academic year.

Within many workplaces, it is common practice for employees to self-certify for absence due to short-term illness. The proposal to introduce this practice for students at Westminster from 2020/21 was approved by the Academic Council in June 2020. This will give students the same opportunity and responsibility to explain absence for a short period of time, in appropriate circumstances, recognising that it is not always possible or appropriate to seek an appointment, or consult with a GP, for short-term illnesses.

A new replacement MC e:vision task, the self-service tool for students to use online, has now been launched and is available for all students to use via the Student Hub.

The new task includes links to information that provides students with guidance on support services during times of illness and stress. Further valuable advice and guidance on the services available to you can be found on our Support and Services page.

Please note that self-certification is only permitted in certain circumstances. More information can be found on our Mitigating Circumstances Claims page.
