Monday 9 May marks the first day of Mental Health Awareness Week, with this year’s theme being “loneliness”.

As the week falls during assessments, the University and the Students’ Union are running a series of workshops on the themes of loneliness and supporting your wellbeing during this stressful period.

The sessions are open to all students, just click on the links below to find out more and book your place: 

Monday 9 May, 12-12:30pm (online) - Being a student is naturally sometimes an isolating experience. Join this workshop by the Specialist Mentoring service to gain an understanding of how to tackle loneliness.   

Monday 9 May, 1:30-2:30pm (online) - Learn tools from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help you maintain healthy relationships, and in turn increase your self-worth, foster genuine connections and improve your emotional support.

Join your VP Welfare from the Students’ Union in a self-care hamper give-away on campus to promote the small ways we can look after our wellbeing. 

  • Mental Wellbeing Workshop with Mind 

Tuesday 10 May, 1-2pm (online) 

Thursday 12 May, 1-2pm (online) 

Join one of the leading mental health charities in a mental health awareness and wellbeing workshop. From this interactive session, you'll gain the knowledge to look after your mental health, develop coping strategies and support others too. 

Wednesday 11 May, 11am-3pm (Harrow) - Talk to experts from the charity Mind in this drop-in session. Find them at their stall in the Forum on Harrow campus and grab a free coffee! Ask any questions about your wellbeing, with the option to speak to them in a confidential setting too. 

Wednesday 11 May 2022, 4:30-5:15pm (online) - Mindfulness can vastly improve stress and overall wellbeing, it's even included in the NHS’s 5 Steps to Wellbeing. This workshop will introduce you to practicing mindfulness and paying attention to the present moment, to support your wellbeing during the assessment period and beyond. 

Thursday 12 May, 12-1pm (online) - How can we challenge ourselves to combat loneliness, and to be connected in healthy ways? Join the Counselling Team as they explore this question and more, defining the experience of isolation, solitude and company from a counselling perspective. 

Thursday 12 May, 1–2pm (online) - This webinar will focus on the types of support offered by Westminster University's Disability Learning Support (DLS) and how students can register with the service. Find out how DLS can support you at Westminster and help you access other services too. 

Friday 13 May, 1:30–2:30pm (online) - We all have times when we lack confidence and don’t feel good about ourselves, but when it occurs long-term it can be harmful to our mental health. This workshop will help you identify thoughts and behaviours that affect your confidence and teach you Cognitive Behavioural Techniques to overcome them. 

  • Green Dot Bystander Intervention Training

Monday 23 May, 2-4pm (online) 
Thursday 26 May, 2-4pm (online) 

Green Dot is an active bystander training programme focusing on sexual abuse, domestic abuse and harassment, but the skills learnt can be used in any situation where there is a risk of harm. This overview session includes identifying warning signs, intervention techniques, understanding your own barriers and challenging norms. 

  • Look After Your Mate Training 

Tuesday 24 May, 10:30am-1pm (online) 

Wednesday 25 May, 2-4:30pm (online) 

This workshop covers how to effectively support the mental health of you and your friends. It covers practical tips, how to spot warning signs, how to set boundaries, and covers the resources available to you.
