Today’s businesses face a pressing challenge: how to thrive while addressing sustainability in every aspect of their operations. Our Sustainable Business Management BA will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to champion sustainable practices and drive positive change for businesses.
Going beyond theory, this course offers a comprehensive understanding of sustainable business practices and their importance. At the heart of our program is the development of responsible leaders who are well-equipped to navigate the evolving norms of the business world, where sustainability is fundamental to success. We will empower you to integrate sustainable principles seamlessly into all aspects of business management, encompassing finance, marketing, operations, and supply chain management.

Our Sustainable Business Management BA offers practical experience opportunities, with the option to spend a year in industry between your second and third year of study. Alternatively, you will have the chance to explore international perspectives through a year abroad, providing you with valuable real-world experience.

Course structure
Our Sustainable Business Management BA will equip you with real-world skills to drive sustainability in business.
You’ll learn through a diverse range of engaging activities, including live briefs, simulation games, teamwork, problem-based learning, workshops, debates, self-assessment quizzes, action learning sets and role-plays.
The course seamlessly integrates digital skills throughout your studies, adapting to the ever-evolving software landscape. In your first year, you’ll be introduced to tools for business analytics, moving on to developing your digital media skills in year two, as well as covering digital tools for research in your final year.
The following subjects are indicative of what you’ll study on this course.
In Year 1, you’ll be introduced to the core business disciplines and be supported in your transition to university.
Subjects of study include:
- Accounting and Finance for Business
- Analytics in Sustainable Business
- Behaviour in Organisations
- Introduction to Sustainable Business
- Marketing for Sustainable Business Management
You’ll also have the chance to tailor your course by choosing an elective module.
Credit Level 4
In Year 2, you’ll apply your knowledge to real business problems and develop skills in analysis and critical reflection.
Subjects of study include:
- Business Transformation
- Management and Leadership for Sustainable Business
- Sustainable City Economics
You’ll also choose between a range of optional modules such as Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility, Ethics and Social Responsibility in Marketing, New Venture Creation and Project Management. You will also have the opportunity to study a module from other parts of the University, including a foreign language.
Alternatively, in place of the option modules listed above, you may be able to take the WBS Study Abroad Experience (subject to eligibility) or the WBS Work Experience.
Credit Level 5
Between Years 2 and 3 (Levels 5 and 6), you may choose to undertake either a professional placement year in the UK or an international experience year.
Professional Experience
You’ll have the option to take a placement year in industry. During the year, you’ll identify goals to work towards achieving whilst on placement; carry out research to develop awareness of the Sustainable business sector you are working in, using a range of data sources; familiarise yourself with a range of sustainable techniques and processes, which help effectively deliver key initiatives and business objectives.
International Experience
Alternatively, you may choose to undertake an international experience year at one of our partner overseas institutions. During the year, you’ll study and reside in the country of a host institution. The content of your study is agreed through a Learning Agreement between you, the home institution and Westminster Business School.

In Year 3, you’ll develop an understanding of strategy and planning in organisations whilst honing your critical evaluation, research, leadership and innovation skills.
Subjects of study include:
- Contemporary Issues in Sustainable Business
- Social and Green Innovation
- Sustainable Strategic Management
- Sustainable Supply Chain Management
You’ll also choose between a range of optional modules such as Designing a Sustainable World, Ethics, CSR and Sustainability in Sport, Management and Commercialisation of Social Enterprise, Sustainability Marketing, Sustainable Tourism in the Developing World, or learn a foreign language.

Dr Manpreet Dhillon
Senior Lecturer
I began my journey at Westminster three years ago. I am a senior lecturer in the Department of Marketing and Management. Prior to this I have worked for Coventry University and University of Bedfordshire where I have taught wide range of business management modules at both UG and PG levels.
Prior to transitioning into academia, I acquired significant expertise in the banking industry, fulfilling the role of an Investment Manager.
Driven by my passion for subjects such as sustainability and supply chain, I embarked on a journey to earn my PhD degree, specialising in green supply chain management for SMEs. Armed with a PhD, a PG certificate in teaching and qualifications in management, I transitioned into a full-time lecturer role. My motivation lies in nurturing and inspiring future business leaders.

EU Qualifications Welcome Award Scheme

Teaching and Assessment
How you'll be taught
Teaching methods across all our undergraduate courses focus on active student learning through lectures, seminars, workshops, problem-based and blended learning, and where appropriate practical application. Learning typically falls into three broad categories:
- Scheduled hours: examples include lectures, seminars, practical classes, workshops, supervised time in a studio
- Placement: placement hours normally include placement opportunities, but may also include live projects or virtual activity involving employers
- Independent study: non-scheduled time in which students are expected to study independently. This may include preparation for scheduled sessions, follow-up work, wider reading or practice, completion of assessment tasks, or revision
How you'll be assessed
Our undergraduate courses include a wide variety of assessments.
Assessments typically fall into two broad categories:
- Practical: examples include presentations, videos, podcasts, lab work, creating artefacts
- Coursework: examples include essays, reports, in-class tests, portfolios, dissertation
