About me
Dr Leah Mwainyekule is a lecturer with the University of Westminster's School of Media and Communication, which she joined in September 2022. Before this, she worked as Associate Lecturer for the University of East London (UEL) and the University of the Arts London (UAL) at their London College of Communication (LCC).
Prior to joining academia, Dr Mwainyekule worked as a journalist and later as a communications specialist in Tanzania for over 20 years. Her focus was mainly on the development sector.
She has a Master of Arts Degree in International Communication and Development from Swansea University, and a PhD in Sociology and Social Anthropology from the University of Hull.
Teaching
Dr Mwainyekule teaches both postgraduate (MA in Public Relations) and undergraduate (BA in Digital Media) levels. She also supervises student dissertations at all levels.

The research areas that Dr Mwainyekule is interested in, include: Journalism; Public Relations; Social Media Participation; Social Media Activism; Social Media Inclusion; Political Communication; Marketing Communications; Development Communication; Media Regulation; and Media and Politics in Africa.
