Dr Gheorghe Multescu

Gheorghe Multescu (PhD MSc BArch DipArch ARB OAR SFHEA) is a Senior Lecturer in Property and Chartered Architect within the Westminster Business School (WBS) at University of Westminster (UoW). His portfolio of teaching and management responsibilities includes Leadership of the MSc Real Estate Development programme as well as various undergraduate and postgraduate Property modules.

As part of academic collaborations, Gheorghe has shared leadership of a joint MBA International Real Estate programme in partnership with Akademie der Hochschule Biberach (Germany), organizing and delivering the course’s London block of studies for over 15 years. 

Gheorghe has also held teaching, research and management responsibilities at London South Bank University (LSBU) (2002-2016). His past roles have included Directorship of the London institute for Real Estate at LSBU, Course Directorship for the joint BSc (Hons) Building Surveying and Quantity Surveying degree programmes as well as Director of Internationalisation for the School of Built Environment and Architecture (SoBEA at LSBU) enabling collaboration with academic partners abroad (e.g. Mauritius, Germany, Romania, etc). 

Gheorghe has trained as a Chartered Architect and graduated in 1996 with a BArch DipArch (RIBA accredited) from the University of Architecture and Urbanism "Ion Mincu" (UAUIM) in Bucharest, Romania. Gheorghe is a Chartered Architect registered with the Architectural Registration Board (UK) and Order of Architects in Romania (OAR) and his professional work has included residential and commercial design schemes within several architectural practices. Further to advancing his studies in Town Planning and Urban Development, UAUIM awarded him an MSc in Architecture and Town Planning in 1999 with a Dissertation on “The Compact City Concept and its role within Sustainable Urban Development”. 

Gheorghe’s research expertise includes various aspects of Sustainability, Planning Practice and Real Estate Development and Investment (including Comparative Planning Practice and Sustainability, Urban Development & Property-led Regeneration Policy, European and International Real Estate and Construction Markets, Corporate Real Estate Management and Strategies, impact of Property Cycles on UK and International Property Development / Investment, etc). He is a regular attendee of Real Estate, Planning and Sustainability research conferences and seminars. 

Gheorghe was awarded his PhD in Urban Development and Policy in 2009 by London South Bank University (LSBU, Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences) with a research thesis entitled "Public Participation in Post-Communist Societies: How can Community Involvement in Urban Planning be improved?”.

Gheorghe’s research training includes scholarships held at the Technische Universität Wien (ÖAAD scholarship examining the "Morphology of Urban Fabric in the 17^th and 18^th Century South Eastern Europe", 1995) as well as at LSBU (“Tempus” research scholarship, 1998; and LSBU Doctoral Research, 2000-2002).
