About me
I am interested in the connections between people and places. The interstices between them and how they affect one another in a range of contexts; from employees in a range of organisations, to locals in their communities and tourists at destinations.
I am a pragmatist so I enjoy projects that help people solve problems and improve processes that allow working life to be more purposeful, sustainable and healthy
Teaching
I teach organisational behaviour, human resource management, and tourism development, sustainable heritage management. I have designed modules and taught students in management, healthcare, tourism and finance programmes, at a range of levels, from Foundation to MBA.
I created innovative Research Methods modules using a workshop method that empowers students to develop their critical selection skills and created a Bridging Course for the UK’s first Foundation Degree students to help their progression to a final year of a BA pathway.
I have served twice as an External Examiner and as a Validation panellist for new course creation.
Research
So far my research has focused on visitor interpretation and satisfaction, tour guide training as a and developing integrated heritage management.
I am currently researching the challenge of managing teams remotely and virtually and the impact on employee happiness, productivity and social capital.
