About me
Ali Hassan is a Lecturer at Westminster Business School (WBS) and joined WBS in 2018 as a doctoral researcher. He holds a BSc(Hons) in Business Management with Finance, an MSc in International Banking, Finance and Risk Management and a PhD in Finance. His expertise lies in M&A, Financial Stability, Financial Intermediation, Credit and Liquidity Risk, and Systemic Risk measurement.
Ali teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students a wide range of finance, accounting, and management modules at WBS. Before joining the University of Westminster, Ali taught numerous modules on MBA, MSc and BA programmes at the University of Liverpool, Bath Spa University, and Kaplan International.
Before joining academia, Ali also gained industry exposure in enterprise risk leasing with teams in commercial finance, consultancy advisory, and information security whilst working for a joint venture between Barclays and HSBC within the financial services industry in the UK. During his time in the industry, he was part of the team overseeing the implementations of ISO27001, designing the Enterprise Risk Framework, Monetising the Risk Register, ensuring compliance with the Bank of England Note Circulation Scheme, and managing risks to the organisation while working with a consortium of banks on Banking Hubs which are now being rolled out across the UK as well as providing consultancy and advisory services to Central Banks based in the Middle East.

Teaching
Dr Ali Hassan has extensive teaching experience, a testament to his commitment to nurturing the next generation of professionals. Having served as an Honorary Lecturer and Visiting Lecturer at many Higher Educational Institutions, he has imparted knowledge on a wide array of finance, accounting, and business-related modules. From Financial Accounting, Financial Risk Management and Corporate Finance to Strategic Management and Project Management, his teaching philosophy revolves around a student-centred approach, fostering an inclusive learning environment that upholds principles of equality and diversity - a philosophy well-aligned with the Westminster Business School’s values.

Research
Ali is an active researcher and his main areas of research interest include Financial Stability in emerging markets, Financial intermediation, Bank capital and Liquidity regulations, Credit and Liquidity risks, Systemic Risk measurement and CoVaR modelling. Ali has supervised numerous students at the Masters and pre-doctorate level. He has also presented his research at research conferences and is currently working on several research papers.
