About me

Dr Emma Elkington joined Westminster Business School in October 2023 as Head of the School of Finance and Accounting, having spent over 2 decades leading in Higher Education and Professional Education.

Emma is a Chartered Accountant and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, who started her career in audit at Ernst & Young before being seconded into the learning technology team and then the training department of the UK firm where she wrote and delivered training for staff. Emma then moved to into professional education, where she was a tutor and managing director of a number of regional centres and also  a content author. After a brief move back into industry as a consultant on a capital funding release and sale of a previously nationalised business, and having dabbled with becoming a maths teacher, she moved back into Higher Education.

Before joining Westminster she has been a module leader, year tutor, course leader and Head of the Accounting and Finance Department at Hertfordshire Business School. She has also served on various learning and development committees for the development of education in the accounting profession. Emma’s real passion at work is to support staff and students to achieve their potential and she has an enthusiasm for the transformative impact education can have at all levels of study and stages in life, having spent her formative years in an economically deprived coastal area of the East Midlands of England.

Emma undertook her doctoral studies, looking at the management of business schools in the UK HE sector (including the function of metrics and their interplay with emotions and gossip) gaining her doctorate in 2021 and remains an active member of the critical management community and is publishing on public sector management.
