About me

I joined the University of Westminster in April 2022. My academic and research interests focus on medical imaging and artificial intelligence, particularly their application to healthcare and cancer diagnosis.

I hold a degree in Computer Science and a Master’s degree in Computer Vision. In 2016, I completed my PhD, titled “Study of Brain Complexity Using Information Theory Tools.”

I am also an Honorary Assistant Professor at University College London (UCL), where I worked as a Senior Research Fellow. During my time at UCL, I contributed to several internationally recognised research centres, including the Wellcome / EPSRC Centre for Interventional and Surgical Sciences (WEISS), the UCL Centre for Medical Image Computing (CMIC), and the Computer Assisted Navigation, Diagnosis and Intervention Research Group (CANDI). My honorary appointment allows me to continue collaborating on research projects in medical imaging and artificial intelligence.

My research has been recognised through several awards, including:

  • Outstanding Area Chair Award, Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (2022)
  • Early Career Researcher of the Year, WEISS Winter Workshop (2021)
  • Public Engagement: Emerging Practice Award, WEISS Winter Workshop (2021)
  • Best Research Teaser Award, WEISS Winter Workshop (2019)
  • KUKA Best Paper Award at the Computed Assisted and Robotic Endoscopy Workshop

Teaching

In my teaching capacity at University of Westminster, I serve as the module leader for:

  • Software Development II (4COSC005W) in the BSc in Computer Science, BSc in Software Engineering and the BSc in Data Science and Analytics.
  • Deep Learning and Neural Networks (7COSC015W) in the MSc in Applied Artificial Intelligence

I also teach seminars across several undergraduate modules, such as Software Development I (4COSC001W) and Applied AI (6COSC020W). And a final year project supervisor for the modules 6COSC023W (Computer Science and Software Engineering) and 6DATA007 (Data Science).

Alongside my teaching responsibilities, I act as a Personal Tutor, supporting students throughout their academic and professional development.

Research

My research lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence, medical image computing, and computer-assisted interventions. I have extensive experience in ultrasound-guided procedures for cancer detection and diagnosis, particularly in prostate and pancreatic imaging.

My current research interests include early cancer detection, generative AI, and medical image synthesis, with a focus on how machine learning techniques can improve clinical decision-making and patient outcomes.

I am also actively involved in PhD supervision, supporting and mentoring the next generation of researchers in computer science and medical imaging.

In addition, I serve as the Early Career Researcher Representative on the Research Committee at the University of Westminster.
