About me
Jake Barber studied English at the University of Iowa (BA), applied linguistics at the University of Hawaii (MA) and business administration at Richmond American University in London (MBA).
His areas of expertise include HE transition and academic skills, English for Academic Purposes, career progression and professional skills, general management and leadership, project management and organizational behavior. He managed commercially focused education programs with the University of California Santa Cruz and University of Hawaii and has curriculum development and quality enhancement leadership experience. He is a Senior Fellow with Advance HE (SFHEA), a Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE) and a trained facilitator of the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method.
He is originally from Iowa, USA and calls London home. He likes The Wave in Bristol (artificial wave pool) and is a keen, although not very proficient, surfer. In his free time he walks and is currently working toward completion of the Wainwright fells in Cumbria, UK.

Jake Barber is module leader for 5BUSS011W Professional Placement and 5BUSS005X Professional and Personal Skills Development. He is a seminar leader for 5MNST003W Leadership Development and 6BUSS012W Contemporary Issues in Business Management.
Research
Jake's research interests lie in the exchange of academic and practical knowledge, professional skills and employability. With a background in applied linguistics and teaching practice in North America, and as a migrant to the UK, he is also interested in internationalization and student transition to UK academic culture.
