Film BA- 2024

The lecturers were very reliable and hands-on in their teaching approaches. I especially enjoyed learning theory and film history from lecturers who were clearly enthusiastic and knowledgable on topics such as cinema from around the word.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

I chose to study at Westminster due to the university's historical success in film. I also liked that the Film BA course was a mix of both theory and practice.

How has your experience been studying in London?

As a Londoner, it was both convenient as well as desirable for me to study in London. I enjoyed meeting friends in Central London which is a hub for fun activities, good food, sports and more. The travel in London is also very effective and reliable.

Tell us about your course and what have you particularly enjoyed?

The Film BA is a course that combines theory with practice, which was very attractive to me as I come from an academic background. Being able to work in different teams in different roles helped me figure out what I want to do in the future. Also, there is a clear understanding of how theory supports film, as well as the importance of networking and how one can enter the film industry.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

The lecturers were very reliable and hands-on in their teaching approaches. I especially enjoyed learning theory and film history from lecturers who were clearly enthusiastic and knowledgeable on topics such as cinema from around the word. Even on practical projects, there is consistent communication between teams and academics to ensure deadlines are being met.

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

The editing suites and camera equipment were hugely beneficial assets to me as an editor and for the film course generally. The editing suites were almost always available, and were state-of-the-art.

Have you used the University Careers and Employability Service? If yes tell us about your experience

I did use the Careers and Employability Service to create my CV. They provided an excellent template suitable for someone trying to get a job in the film industry. I also attended some remote sessions which provided information on how to attend interviews and more.

Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course

I joined the Creative Writing society, which was both enjoyable and enriching, especially as someone who has a passion for writing. While on my course I primarily focused on editing, however joining this society provided a creative outlet in a different form.

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

I would advise someone to join societies as it is very beneficial for making connections and having more enriching activities to do in your free time. I would also encourage them to take full advantage of the Careers and Employability service, including mentoring and the Working Cultures events.

What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?

The best aspect of being a University of Westminster student was being part of a fantastic film school legacy and also having access to the state-of-the-art facilities, provided by friendly staff.

What’s the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?

The most unexpected aspect of my experience was how many career-related events there were. These were highly beneficial to me and my top regret would probably not be taking more advantage of them!
