Why did you choose the University of Westminster?
I selected the University of Westminster for my postgraduate studies in Tourism Management as I was attracted by its academic reputation, campus atmosphere, and course curriculum that encouraged collaboration with industry leaders. The university's strategic location in Central London played a crucial role in my decision as it provides access to a hub of global tourism activity. The diversity of communities at the university was another critical factor; I looked forward to connecting with people from different cultures in the global tourism landscape.
How has your experience been studying in London?
I have had an incredible experience during my time in London. The city's vibrant atmosphere provided me with a world-class education and allowed me to network with diverse cultures and perspectives. The exposure to industry trends and access to many cultural events helped me grow academically and professionally, making it an invaluable chapter in my educational journey.
What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?
I have thoroughly enjoyed my course at the University of Westminster. The academic staff are exceptional, providing real-world experience in the classroom. What sets this course apart for me is its hands-on approach. The practical assignments have helped me apply what I learned and make the most out of the course material. The learning process is interactive and collaborative, which makes the classes enjoyable. I also enjoyed our field trip to Bath, which brought the lessons to life. Overall, it has been a well-rounded and unforgettable learning experience.
How have you found academic support as part of your studies?
The support the academic staff and lecturers provided during my studies has been exceptional. They are approachable and available to offer valuable guidance and clarification. Regularly scheduled office hours and a supportive learning environment have played a crucial role in making my academic experience positive, and I have always felt well-supported throughout my studies.
Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?
The facilities that stand out and are associated with my course include excellent support from the Student Centre and the University Careers and Employability Service, a well-equipped library at the Marylebone campus and IT labs with plenty of computers for students. All these resources have greatly enriched my experience during my studies.
Tell us about your experience of using the University Careers and Employability Service.
I have been actively engaging with the University Careers and Employability Service, which has been incredibly helpful. The service has provided insightful workshops on successful CV writing and job interviewing through online courses and facilitated on-campus recruiter events during the first semester. Moreover, I appreciate receiving regular emails highlighting positions that align with my interests, making the job search process more tailored and efficient.
Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course
I have had various enriching experiences outside of my course. One of the most memorable ones was a field trip to Bath, which offered a unique perspective on the tourism industry in this historical city. Moreover, by visiting various locations in London, such as Hackney Wick and Abney Park, I was able to broaden my knowledge of different tourism sectors.
What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?
If someone is considering studying at Westminster, I would advise them to immerse themselves fully in the dynamic and diverse academic environment. Enjoy the excellent support services, engage with academics, and explore London's rich cultural experiences. Participation in extracurricular activities such as field trips or joining clubs will enhance your university experience.
What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?
One of the best things about studying at the University of Westminster as an international student is the feeling of belonging. The support provided in all aspects, from academic to mental health and wellbeing, makes me feel less alone while far from my home country.
What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?
Before starting my course, I anticipated that the education system in the UK would be completely different from my home country. I was assessed solely through exams in my previous studies, and I knew I should be prepared to write essays in my future studies.
