Marketing Communications BA – 2024
Studying in London has been a transformative experience.
Why did you choose the University of Westminster?
I chose to study here because of its strong focus on industry-relevant education and the opportunity to learn in a diverse and dynamic environment. I truly believe that the university has some incredible connections with industry professionals and those connections were brought into our learning environment. It was great to engage with guest lecturers who are leaders in their fields and gain insights directly from industry experts, which enriched my educational experience and prepared me for my career post-university.
How has your experience been studying in London?
As cliche as it sounds, studying in London has been a good and transformative experience. I was born and raised here so I know first-hand how vibrant and cultural the city is, so studying in London just sounded right for me and I’m super happy that I stuck to that decision. I met the greatest people and got to engage with a diverse student body as well as staff. London has a funny way of bringing people together and creating unique opportunities for collaboration and learning. The city’s dynamic environment has enriched my academic journey and personal growth in ways I couldn’t have imagined elsewhere.
What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?
I met the greatest people on this course from students to staff. I was able to collaborate with a diverse group of peers (people from all around the world) who brought various perspectives to our discussions and projects when it came not only to marketing but also life in general. The staff were supportive and provided valuable insights, making the learning experience engaging and enriching. The hands-on projects and real-world applications of our coursework made the program especially rewarding - I must say it was my favourite part and that’s what I loved about my course especially, the fact that it emphasised putting our knowledge into practice. This approach not only deepened my understanding of the subject matter but also prepared me for real-life challenges in my field, making the learning process both engaging and directly applicable to my future career.
How have you found academic support as part of your studies?
It was amazing. I must give a big shoutout to Unvan, La Toya, and Ali - they were truly incredible, and I must say that they made my whole experience at the university an even better one. They were very supportive of me and always pushed for me to do better and for that I am forever grateful. The lecturer support was great. I am very satisfied with the support I received. The lecturers were always approachable and always willing to offer guidance, both during and outside classroom hours.
Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?
The library’s extensive resources not only in person but also online was impressive. The quiet areas were invaluable during periods where I had many deadlines to abide to so I’m super happy that there was both a communal area to speak to your friends, as well as another area that was separate to really focus. I was also always impressed by the student centre - they were always very helpful and made sure my queries were resolved quickly.

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?
My advice is to take full advantage of the opportunities Westminster offers. There is so much more to the university than what you see. I truly wish I partook in more extra-curricular activities or went to study abroad. Engage actively with your courses, participate in those extracurricular activities, take that trip and study abroad, and build relationships with both peers and faculty. The university provides numerous resources, from academic support to career services, so make sure to utilise them to enhance your learning experience and career prospects.
What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?
The best aspect is the university’s vibrant and inclusive community. The diversity of the student body and staff creates a rich learning environment, and the fact that you’re in central London means you get access to cultural, professional, and social opportunities. Also, the practical approach to education! Real-world projects and industry connections, makes the learning experience highly relevant and engaging.
What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?
Honestly, the amount of support you get from your lecturers and the university in general. I must say, I was truly surprised. I kept hearing stories that once you get to university there wouldn’t be anyone to guide you and that you were completely left to your own accord. And don’t get me wrong, the whole point of university it to become more of an independent learner to have initiative and we were supported to do that, but I was never turned away if I ever needed support in something and that is what made my experience at the university even more invaluable.
Your Thoughts
My time at Westminster exceeded my expectations in many ways. The support from lecturers, the wealth of resources available, and the vibrant student life made my experience a truly unforgettable one. I appreciated the university’s commitment to providing a well-rounded education that goes beyond the classroom, fostering both personal and professional growth. I also appreciate the abundance of support I received from my lecturers during my time there. Westminster not only equipped me with knowledge but also with confidence and skills that I will carry forward in my career and my personal life. Thank you so much #Nicole’sOut
