International Media Business MA- 2022

Westminster offers a wealth of opportunities. Embrace every chance to explore, keep an open mind, and make the most of your time here.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

I chose the University of Westminster because it perfectly aligned with my desire for a London-based university with a strong international student presence and a media course focused on the business side of the industry. Westminster offered the exact course I was looking for and provided a vibrant, inclusive environment that welcomed students from around the world.

How has your experience been studying in London?

Studying in London was an incredible experience. The city’s cosmopolitan nature and diverse culture provided endless opportunities for learning and exploration. I was lucky to attend classes at all Westminster campuses across the city, which allowed me to experience different parts of London. I enjoyed discovering new parts of the city and getting immersed in British culture and the London social scene through theatre shows, parks and markets.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

Being part of the International Media Business MA course was a wonderful learning experience. The course curriculum is both theoretical and practical with emphasis on equipping students with the required skills to work in media organisations or start up their own. I particularly enjoyed the industry experience included on the course, such as internships, and the valuable insights gained from guest lectures and discussions with media practitioners.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

My course leader and tutor were amazing, offering support where needed while encouraging students to be curious and independent learners. Other lecturers on the course were also engaging and keen to dedicate time for questions and offer assistance. I was also impressed by their extensive experience in the media industry.

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

The course offers students the chance to work on real-life projects through placements with media companies in and around London. I got to work on a media consumer research project and got my work published in an industry report.

Tell us about your experience of using the University Careers and Employability Service

The Career and Employability Service was a great resource, and I found it helpful in my internship search. Through the tools and resources provided, I was able to put together a good CV and cover letter, which helped me secure two internship placements. Over the course of the year the service also offered a range of industry-specific and general workshops that were crucial for career development. Even after completing my course, the continued access to these resources was incredibly helpful as I transitioned into the professional world.
