Psychology MSc – 2025

I knew studying at Westminster would help me to develop as a skilled research practitioner, with the expertise and knowledge to analyse psychological issues, design and evaluate interventions, and demonstrate my critical appraisal skills.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

Westminster stood out as the best choice for me for so many reasons. As a well-established Psychology MSc conversion course, I was confident in its successful track record and knew it could provide unrivalled benefits, such as learning from leading experts - including our Course Leader, Dr Mark Gardner - all in the heart of central London.

Another huge advantage is that my course is accredited by the British Psychological Society and confers eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership - so I knew studying at Westminster would help me to develop as a skilled research practitioner with the expertise and knowledge to analyse psychological issues, design and evaluate interventions, and demonstrate my critical appraisal skills.

How has your experience been studying in London?

I've lived and worked in London most of my life - and am still fascinated by it daily! I'm based at the Cavendish campus, near Oxford Circus, which is so convenient for my commute and meeting up with friends and family after class.

Studying in central London is such an exciting experience, especially with the myriad of employability and social events that Westminster runs to connect students with industry and bring people together.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

I'm studying part-time and have just started Semester 2 - but I've already learnt so much! It's hard to believe that I knew next to nothing about Psychology just a few months ago. Now, I'm confident about my progress and can't wait to learn more - thanks to our excellent lecturers, tutors and the School of Social Sciences team.

Whilst the course is intense and you need to work hard to do your best, there is lots of  support available to help you succeed. The focus from day one is on learning the theory and putting it into practice to prepare you for your future career.

I'm also really enjoying the course structure, which offers a range of learning opportunities beyond the standard lectures and seminars - including training workshops, group presentations and research projects.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

The academic support at Westminster is outstanding. The team understands that everyone has individual strengths and development areas. The lecturers and tutors support you and give you the confidence to deliver to the best of your ability.

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

The Cavendish campus is fantastic. This semester, I'm excited about getting into the Electrodermal Activity lab!

Tell us about your experience of using the University Careers and Employability Service

I've been impressed with the University of Westminster's Careers and Employability Service, which offers a range of career consultations and great advice on work placements. I also completed Westminster's EDI Future Leaders Programme in Psychology last semester, which was really insightful.

Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course

There are so many extra-curricular activities to take advantage of at Westminster. As a part-time postgraduate student, I don't have that much free time on campus, but I love the Give It A Go sports taster sessions - especially rowing and table tennis. I hope to get back out on the river once the weather warms up! I’ve also recently discovered that we have a fantastic 1934 Compton organ at Fyvie Hall, so I’m looking forward to leveraging my piano skills and learning how to play it.

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

My advice would be to think about what you want to achieve. What are your goals? If you're looking for an inclusive, supportive, and inspiring experience, then Westminster definitely delivers.

What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?

Westminster really is a global university with London energy. It's such a microcosm of the world.

What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?

Having previously studied at Durham University and enjoyed the collegiate system, I was slightly apprehensive of Westminster's university campus structure; however, everyone here is so focused on inclusion and wellbeing that they make you feel at home and supported.
