Music: Production, Performance and Business BA
Our music facilities are probably the best I have ever seen. Our recording and live studios have everything you might need, and the technical team there is always available to help students. Area 51, the university’s live music venue (and personally my favourite place on campus), is an amazing space to level up your performance skills and practice with professional live gear.
Why did you choose the University of Westminster?
I chose to study at the University of Westminster because of a friend's recommendation. He studied the same course that I’m on now so that’s how I got to know more about it. I then looked further into the curriculum and saw that it was a very hands-on course, which was exactly what I was looking for. When I visited the University, I had an opportunity to see the amazing facilities, such as the recording and rehearsing studios and of course the famous Area 51, the university’s very own music venue. That’s when I was convinced that this was the right university for me.
How has your experience been studying in London?
Despite various lockdowns during the second year, I’ve still been able to learn a lot and meet amazing people from all around the world. My teachers have been really helpful too and they are always there to help us when we need them. London is the perfect city for students because of its liveliness. There is always something to do and new people to meet, which is amazing, especially in a very collaborative industry such as the music and arts industry.
What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?
I’ve really enjoyed being part of a creative community. Our Harrow campus has all the different creative courses and facilities in one place. This has enabled me to collaborate with students from different sectors. The course projects are modelled around the professional music industry and are very intuitive to navigate. I’ve been able to correlate my coursework with my passion for music which has made the course even better!
How have you found academic support as part of your studies?
Being able to work on real-world assignments in our industry-like facilities has been a great experience. I’ve also enjoyed learning from academics on the course as they all have in-depth industry experience. The course and the modules have encouraged me to take my career more seriously and keep an active mindset which has helped me to really grow.
Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?
Our music facilities are probably the best I have ever seen. Our recording and live studios have everything you might need, and the technical team there is always available to help students. Area 51, the university’s live music venue (and personally my favourite place on campus), is an amazing space to level up your performance skills and practice with professional live gear.
Tell us about your experience of using the University Careers and Employability Service
I used the University Careers and Employability Services to go over my CV which was really helpful. As an international student, I wasn’t familiar with CV formatting in the UK but after meeting with a personal tutorial, I was able to fully understand what was required and it boosted my employability. I would recommend this service to all the students.
Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course
As part of a course module, I was able to find an internship at a recording studio. I’ve also been able to take part and perform in smaller concerts that our University has organised.
What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?
My advice to someone considering studying at the University of Westminster is to just do it. It’s the perfect place for you to achieve your dreams. The University staff members are always available to help you with almost anything you might need. If you are curious to explore and discover new things, have a can-do attitude and stay on top of your assignments, then this is the perfect place for you!
What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?
I can't emphasise enough how amazing the facilities are and how many resources are available for students. On top of the course-specific facilities, I’ve been able to use the photography and filming studios. I’ve also had access to tools such as 3D printing, laser cutting machines, and so many more. We also have a lot of freedom to develop our learning strategy which is great.
What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?
I was surprised that I was able to participate in other modules from different subject areas. To be more precise, you can, for example, join a fashion module while studying your own course. This cannot interfere with your core modules, but the teachers are always available to help you to find the best solution to support your learning!
