Architecture and Environmental Design MSc – 2017
The Architecture and Environmental Design MSc has provided me with an in-depth understanding of building physics and the theoretical principles of environmental design.
The Architecture and Environmental Design MSc has provided me with an in-depth understanding of building physics and the theoretical principles of environmental design, building upon my previous construction knowledge as a part-time student working in an Architectural Practice.
Methods for simulating and quantifying building performance and the impact of design decisions has given me the skills and tools to aid colleagues In making better design decisions on projects within the practice and provide insight into ways in which to present environmental design solutions based on scientific analysis.
Since completing the course, I have become a key member of the Sustainability Group at LSI Architects LLP, whose aim is to research, share and disseminate knowledge and ideas around the topic of environmental design. I have also been involved in developing the use of environmentally focused CAD technologies and simulation tools throughout the LSI office.
Areas of learning that I have been able to promote within the practice are micro-climatic analysis and outdoor thermal comfort studies, informing site layout, orientation and proposed building forms at the early design stages of a project. Research for my final thesis project focused on the quality and improvement of internal school environments for learning, productivity and well-being. The outcome of this has been fed into the practice's approach to school and classroom design.
