The University of Westminster wishes a very happy Hanukkah to all of our Jewish students, colleagues, alumni and friends celebrating.
Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish festival also known as the Festival of Lights, sees Jewish people across the globe light one candle each day on a nine-branched menorah. The holiday commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire.
The holiday begins on the 25th day of Kislev, the ninth month of the ecclesiastical year on the Hebrew calendar. This year, the holiday begins on Thursday 10 December on the Western Calendar, and continues until Friday 18 December.
The University of Westminster wishes a very happy Hanukkah all of its students, colleagues, alumni and friends that are celebrating the holiday.
