The University extends warm wishes to all of our colleagues, students, alumni and friends marking the religious festivals of Passover and Easter over the long weekend.
Passover – also called Pesach – commencing 5 April and running until 13 April. One of the most important festivals in the Jewish calendar, it is a celebration of the departure of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, as set out in The Book of Exodus – a text which features in both Jewish and Christian scripture.
Sunday 9 April sees the culmination of Christian Holy Week, with Easter Sunday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, as recounted in the Christian Bible’s New Testament. Easter celebrations also mark the end of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting and prayer which comes to a close during Holy Week.
