The Postgraduate Sanctuary Scholarship will cover full tuition costs, plus a maintenance grant of £1,000 per month for 12 months, which will allow more students to access postgraduate education at the University of Westminster.

Applications are now open to students enrolled on a full-time Master’s course for September 2024 or an offer holder for entry in January 2025. Candidates can apply by completing and returning the Sanctuary Scholarship Application Form to [email protected] by 5pm on 22 November.

Applicants must be UK residents without a previous Master’s degree, who are unable to receive a taught postgraduate student loan from Student Finance, and who are either UK asylum seekers, or have UK discretionary leave to remain as a result of an asylum application, UK limited leave to remain as a result of an asylum application or UK refugee status obtained.

Professor Dibyesh Anand, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement and Employability, said about the scholarship: "We have to do what we can to support access to education for individuals fleeing persecution, wars and conflicts. Sanctuary Scholarships are one of the ways in which we seek to do this at our university. Our commitment to both the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion inspire us to find ways to identify and enhance support for those individuals who are neither classed 'home' nor 'international'."

The Postgraduate Sanctuary Scholarship directly contributes to the United Nations SDGs 1: No Poverty, 4: Quality Education and 10: Reduced Inequalities. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.

Learn about the full eligibility conditions of the Postgraduate Sanctuary Scholarship and apply by 5pm on Friday 22 November.
