Take part in Black, Asian and minority ethnic (*BAME) student poetry competition

The School of Humanities New Writing Festival is excited to open the inaugural University-wide BAME student poetry competition!

If you’re a Black, Asian, or minority ethnic student poet, we’d love to hear your work! So please send two or three of your poems to [email protected] (using the subject line “BAME Student Poets”) before 6pm on Friday 6 May.

There are no rules about the kind of poems we're looking for, so feel free to send sonnets, some ghazals, or some free verse!

The ten most exciting poets will be invited to read their work at the Festival’s closing event on Thursday 26 May. At that event, our guest judges will award prizes to the top three poets!

The School of Humanities New Writing Festival runs from 16-27 May and, as part of the Festival, we’ve also got creative writing workshops with Abena Essah, Kieran Yates, and Shahnaz Ahsan which will be open to students from every School.

If you’d like to develop your fiction writing, life-writing, or poetry skills, make sure you keep an eye on the Festival Workshops page to get booked in when dates/tickets are released!
