To protect and enhance our historic Regent campus – and to create a warmer, more sustainable building for students and colleagues – we’re carrying out major roof and refurbishment work, starting in the autumn.

Scaffolding will be installed from autumn 2023, and the project is expected to be completed by spring 2025. During this time, a protective dressing will cover the front façade of the building.

Our programme of work is designed to repair the roof comprehensively, ensuring it is watertight and fit for the future. Sustainability upgrades will be made, including the installation of solar panels and improved insulation – bringing our Regent Street roof up to modern standards and delivering a warmer, more environmentally friendly building.

The building façade and its historic features will also be refreshed, and new, energy-efficient external lighting will be put in place to highlight and enhance the building’s appearance at night.

Access during works

Regent campus will remain open while work takes place, and our Estates team will work closely with our contractor to minimise disruption during this time.

It’s worth noting that the steps leading down to the canteen from the ground floor, as well as one of the routes leading from the Old Gym to the canteen, will be closed while work is being carried out – however, access to The Hideaway will be maintained.

Other improvements at Regent campus

  • Refurbishment work to the changing rooms in the Basement Gym will complete at the start of August and the space will be re-opened to colleagues and students.
  • The work to create a dedicated graduate space in UG02 is expected to start in July and complete in October.
  • Plans to create a second screen for the Regent Street Cinema (which can also double as a teaching space) on the lower ground floor, along with three other new teaching spaces, have recently been approved. This work is due to be carried out in 2024.
