LGBTQ+ Empowerment Programme – for second-year and above students

Our LGBTQ+ Empowerment Programme is back for students in their second year or above level of study that identify as LGBTQ+. Take part and connect with fellow students in a programme that will empower you through joint experiences and collaboration.

About the programme

This programme will be a transformative experience for our LGBTQ+ students, creating a supportive space to acknowledge your personal and collective growth. You will be able to engage in a series of empowering events, including a Queering Leadership seminar, a Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing session, a dedicated Empowerment Day, a final Awards Celebration event, and more.

Students will be required to participate in a final assessment and those who complete the programme will also be awarded a bursary.

How you can take part

LGBTQ+ students must be in level 5, 6, or 7 to apply for the programme. Simply scan the QR code in the above image or click on this link to complete the attached form.

Applications should only be submitted if you can commit to attending all events in person and have a flexible schedule between February and June 2025.

Please note that places are limited and the deadline to apply is Sunday 26 January.

What our previous participants said:

Students who previously took part in the programme had the opportunity to participate in the Human Rights Forum, the Queering Academia conference, an Empowerment Day, the Brighton Pride Music Festival, and more.

Previous participants also attended a final Awards Celebration that highlighted their achievements and celebrated their experiences at the end of the programme.

El Fraley, author and LGBTQ+ Empowerment Programme participant, said:

The LGBTQ+ Empowerment programme was easily the highlight of my experience at the University of Westminster. I am so grateful to have been part of the first year of this programme and I look forward to seeing it develop in the future. Creating spaces like this for university students is truly life-changing and the importance of this programme cannot be overstated.

In speaking with other members of the programme, we were able to express ourselves and learn from each other in ways that we hadn’t experienced before. I gained so much confidence in myself, including my identity, skills, passions and goals. This programme also opened up so many opportunities, experiences and friendships that I would have never had the pleasure of experiencing otherwise.

I am so thankful to the programme leaders – Rajat, Maria and Leo – for creating such a welcoming, non-judgmental and energised space for us all. I have never been in such a welcoming, positive, fulfilling and warm environment. A huge thank you to the University of Westminster for this experience and everyone who helped make it come to life!
