Join alumna Sophie Metcalfe, Director of Your Marketing Doctor, as she shares her insights on entrepreneurship based on her own experience of founding and developing a business.
In this talk, Sophie will explain how she took the decision to change her business model and the risks it posed. She will also reveal her three biggest lessons learned so far: mistakes are good – own them; being honest and down to earth gets you further; and saying “no” and turning down work is just as important as winning business.
Sophie will answer audience questions during the Q&A session following the talk.
This event is organised in collaboration with WeNetwork.
About the speaker
Sophie Metcalfe, Director of Your Marketing Doctor (Journalism BA, 2009)
After graduating from Westminster in 2009, Sophie began her career as a broadcast journalist in radio, working at Stray FM in Yorkshire. In 2016, she left the world of radio to start up a marketing agency specialising in small and micro enterprises. The agency became a 6-figure business in its first year.
When COVID hit, the business lost key clients as they grappled with their own financial losses. The situation led Sophie to completely re-evaluate and reposition, having learned that the small business sector can be volatile and easily spooked. In 2021 she launched Your Marketing Doctor, working with SMEs to help owners completely change their attitude towards marketing – and to stop burning money!
