Recently, the word 'decolonisation' has become the global 'buzz word' for academic institutions. The term promises a new critical posture of self-reflection and change.
Decolonisation seems to aim at rooting out embedded colonial schemes of knowledge and practice. Recent debates seem to focus on curriculum reform and diversifying methodological practice. But what does the term actually mean and how useful is it when it is used in such varied contexts? Has decolonisation become the latest fad of 'Equality, Diversity and Inclusion' initiatives and promise little aside from paperwork and pointless gesturing?
For this event, we have the pleasure of hosting Dr Leon Moosavi from the University of Liverpool, Dr Riadh Ghemmour from the University of London Central School of Speech and Drama, Professor Catherine Loveday and Professor Dibyesh Anand from the University of Westminster to discuss what decolonisation means to them and whether the notion of decolonisation really does have the potential to deliver on a more just and equitable society.
